C’Mon People Now
The big doings this weekend in Aiken (aside from the Trials horse race) is PrepFest, a celebration of the 95th anniversary of Aiken Preparatory School, an independent day school down the street and around the corner from Fabrication. Our graphic designer, and 100% of Fabrication offspring, attended Aiken Prep, so we’re very fond of, and grateful to, the institution.
The headliner at PrepFest is the Jesse Colin Young Band. Truth! Friday night, on the lawn at Aiken Prep! Why? The Young young’uns are Aiken Prep students/grads; that’s just the kind of surprise Aiken tosses at you.
We’ve got our tickets and are getting in the groove by playing Jesse Colin Young and The Youngbloods in the store all week. Talk about a trip down memory lane! Hey, Babe, Sugar Babe, You Are the One, Sunlight, Song for Juli—the soundtrack of my college years, and my first job in far-away California.
This geologic-history chart from Rock ‘n’ Roll is Here to Pay (sadly, out of print) maps The Youngbloods in the same stratum as Carole King, Janis Ian, Judy Collins, and Buffalo Springfield. Oh yeah, I love that neighborhood.
We’re playing the Jesse Colin Young radio station on Pandora on an iPad. Pandora thinks this music is related to Van Morrison, Eric Clampton, Dave Matthews, The Zombies, and The Temptations. Temptations? You wanta explain that linkage to me, Pandora?
Looking forward to hearing what music Jesse and his band have been doing lately. In Aiken, we see him as a nice guy, responsible citizen, devoted dad, but that doesn’t mean he can’t rock out, does it? We’ll find out Friday night.
